The Toto Asia Awards: The Best, Worst And Weirdest Things We've Ever Seen

The Band Toto Asia

Toto expanded its production facilities overseas, and was doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words so that the next generation could be able to read them. Many words were substituted with foreign words. For instance, dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was being used.

Origins

The early history of Toto that began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's economic expansion. In the beginning of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. It used the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and a more consistent production.

In the late 1980s the company began expanding overseas to benefit from sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other products from other manufacturers to complement its own line of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the firm’s global market share.

By the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development for household appliances that use water. It also improved its system of distribution to better serve its customers and boost profits. The company also employed the just-in time approach in its supply chain management and sales program. This resulted in a higher level of customer satisfaction.

Toto has continued to innovate on the toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for instance, has a powerful tornado flush that is more eco green than traditional toilets. The company uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also produces faucets, bathtubs and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than standard models.

The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It hosts exhibits on the most iconic products of Toto, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made of ceramics), the history of plumbing, and products such as bath units. In another gallery, visitors will find Toto products that are sold across the world. The museum also has the bathroom equipped with a washbasin and other toilet innovations.

Before forming Toto members of the group performed session work for various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich as well as guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia, you would expect the group to be prog queens and kings - but it's actually a fairly simple rock group. The band was initially four-piece, and released two albums: 1979's self-titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a variety of musical backgrounds, their biggest success was achieved in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a huge blockbuster, but it was not without its difficulties. Record companies placed the band on the spot with the ultimatum "give us a hit record or we'll take you off the market" and the pressure was on them to deliver. Luckily for Toto they did, with the aid of the smash single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is due to their prior experience in the music industry, as the band members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their sonic trademark has become the standard of  1980s music, and has inspired a lot of contemporary artists.

This album starts off hard with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into your mind. The album also contains slow, jazzier tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album ends with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and distorted AOR that could sound completely wrong but actually works very well.

After Toto IV the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career and the band was dominated by drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the turbulence, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. However,  스포츠토토 사이트  had a successful chart-topping album in 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. This album marked the end of the original Toto lineup and was also the first album to feature the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. Its more punk-rock sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's improved proficiency on the drums, as well as an improved, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise and less akin to earlier efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released their new studio album a few months later and embarked on a world tour help promote it. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started looking through old demo tapes and tapes to make an album that would feature songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 and released as a double album titled Then and Now. It was the first album by the band without a single song titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial flop and the vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis infection which hampered his singing. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville as a drummer, and Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia, met in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured an appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
