The Band Toto Asia
Toto expanded its production facilities overseas, and was doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Origins
The early history of Toto that began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's economic expansion. This album starts off hard with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into your mind. After Toto IV the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career and the band was dominated by drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. Its more punk-rock sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's improved proficiency on the drums, as well as an improved, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise and less akin to earlier efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released their new studio album a few months later and embarked on a world tour help promote it. The album also contained a previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial flop and the vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe laryngitis infection which hampered his singing. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville as a drummer, and Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia, met in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe who was occupied with Yes at the time, became Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured an appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
